Employment at The Golden Scoop - FAQs 

 Thank you for your interest in working at The Golden Scoop.  Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions about what it is like to work at The Golden Scoop.  If you have additional questions or would like to know more about something that’s not addressed here, please feel free to direct your inquiry to: human.resources@thegoldenscoop.org.  

Q: What is the minimum age for an applicant to apply for a job at The Golden Scoop? 

A: 16 years-old  

Q: What are the hours The Golden Scoop is open? 

A: The hours at the upcoming 103rd Street Location are 7 days/week from 7am-10pm in the Summer, 7am-8pm in the Winter.  The Drive-Thru itself will have the same hours but will only be open Sundays and Mondays. The hours at the existing 9540 Location are Mondays-Saturdays from 7am-9pm in the Summer, 7am-7pm in the Winter, and Sundays from 1pm-5pm Year-Round. The hours of operation at 9540 Nall will go into effect May 6, 2024. 

Q: What are the shifts and how many hours a week are expected? 

A: Shifts typically start at 2 to 3 hours in duration with the expectations of increasing their shift durations.  Shifts differ in the summer months vs. the winter months and by location.   

  • For the existing 9540 Location, the summer shifts are between 6:30am-12pm, 12pm-4:30pm, and 4:30pm-8:30pm, while the Winter Shifts are from 6:30am-11am, 11am-3:30pm, and 3:30pm-7:30pm.    
  • At the upcoming 103rd Street Location, the Summer Shifts are between 6:30am-12pm, 12pm-5pm, and 5pm-10:30pm, while the Winter Shifts are from 6:30am-11am, 11am-4pm, and 4pm-8:30pm.  

Q: What skills and abilities are required? 

A: The skills and abilities differ from position to position.  Here is a summary of the types of duties performed by our Super Scoopers. NOTE: all employees are expected to be cross trained in multiple duties. 

Baker: follow recipes to make specific products, experience with various baking equipment, ability to assess the quality of each finished product to ensure the quality meets standards for sale to customers, keep the baked goods case stocked, maintain a clean and organized workspace 

Barista: take orders, answer questions about flavors, prepare and service coffee and baked goods to customers, package coffee for sale when inventory is low, restock supplies, maintain a clean and organized workspace. 

Ice Cream Producer: fulfill customer ice cream orders, answer questions about flavors, gather desired containers from display freeze and present to customer, replenish a variety of ice cream flavors and toppings to maintain display case inventory, manage tasks to prepare ice cream for sale (stickering lids, dating cups, scooping ice cream into containers, ensure everything is presentable for customers). 

Customer Service: greet customers upon arrival, thank customers upon departure, stock/straighten/inventory merchandise (apparel, drinkware, candles, dog treats, seasonal items) when not interfacing with customers.  

General Cleaning: maintain clean tables, utensils, dishware, machines, floors, etc. to ensure the shop is always presentable to customers. 

Q: Where will the positions be located? 

A: The positions will be split between the existing shop at 9540 and the upcoming site on 103rd Street.  There are also opportunities to serve at off-site catering events for those team members who enjoy engaging with the public and/or sharing their story. 

Q: When will I know about the status of my application? 

A: Applicants can expect to hear about their applications' status within 2 weeks of submitting them.  If an applicant has not heard back, they may request a status update at: human.resources@thegoldenscoop.org 

Q: What can applicants expect of The Golden Scoop? 

A: The Golden Scoop is committed to helping its team members write their own stories in a competitive employment environment- and in life.  The Golden Scoop Leadership facilitates this by maintaining effective communication and coordination with The Golden Scoop Team Members and their support team (i.e. Job Coaches, Care Givers, etc.).  The Golden Scoop Leadership will also provide reasonable on-the-job tools necessary not only to help The Golden Scoop team members perform their jobs successfully, but also to foster growth and development both personally and professionally.
